Spreading Christmas Cheer: Holy Cross Choir Visits St. Joseph’s Villa and Countryside Extendicare 🎶

Last week, students from the Holy Cross School choir had the privilege of visiting St. Joseph’s Villa and Countryside Extendicare, where they spread Christmas joy through music. The Grade 2 students delivered a heartfelt performance that brought smiles to the faces of residents, with many joining in to sing along.

In addition to their musical performance, the students also delivered Christmas cards created the week before. These heartfelt notes were a special way to connect with their community and brighten the holidays for the residents.

Bully Awareness and Prevention Week at Holy Cross School 🚫

Holy Cross School recently wrapped up a successful Bully Awareness and Prevention Week, filled with activities focused on kindness, friendship, and anti-bullying strategies.

Grade 3 French Immersion students took part in a creative and meaningful project by decorating and wearing anti-bullying bracelets. Earlier in the week, they also coloured French posters promoting the message “sois gentils” (be kind), which were proudly displayed around the school as a visual reminder to spread kindness.

In Ms. Theissen and Ms. Harrison’s class, students learned valuable lessons about kindness and how to respond to bullying. They discussed strategies for stopping bullying when they witness it and how to be supportive friends. The students then wrote about the key lessons they had learned, reflecting on the importance of standing up for others and creating a caring environment.

Meanwhile, Ms. Dopson’s Grade 1/2 class read the book La reine de la récré (The Recess Bully), which sparked important conversations about dealing with bullying. The class collaborated to create a poster, seen in the photo, with the powerful message: “Carry each other.” This poster serves as a reminder for everyone at Holy Cross to be kind and supportive, just like the students in Ms. Dopson’s class.

Bully Awareness and Prevention Week was a wonderful success at Holy Cross School, with students engaging in activities that promoted kindness, empathy, and respect. Let’s continue to carry these messages of kindness throughout the year and always support one another.

Holy Cross Students Explore Human Body Systems at French Science Fair 🔬

Students in Mme. Bradley’s Grade 5 class at Holy Cross School showcased their French language skills and Science learning by holding a mini Science Fair in the school library. As part of their Science studies, the students explored Human Body Systems and presented their projects entirely in French to attendees.

Throughout the event, students confidently shared their knowledge, explaining their projects and answering questions from fellow students, teachers, and even visiting parents. The interactive fair provided a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and peer engagement.

Congratulations to our students for their hard work and enthusiasm in bringing Science to life!

Grade 2/3 Class Creates “Treaty Tree” for Treaties Recognition Week 🌳

The Grade 2/3 class at Holy Cross explored the history and significance of Treaties between First Nations and settlers for Treaties Recognition Week.

Students learned about the promises within these agreements, the importance of honoring them, and our shared role as “treaty people.”

To reflect on their learning, students created a Treaty Tree, with each leaf featuring a promise they wrote to uphold the Treaties in their lives. This activity deepened their understanding and commitment to justice, responsibility, and respect, reflecting our Catholic values.

Kindergarten Students Enjoy a Fall Field Trip to Leisure Farms 🎃

Our Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK) students at Holy Cross School recently had the opportunity to embark on an enriching field trip to Leisure Farms. The day was filled with excitement, discovery, and plenty of fresh air, providing a wonderful setting for both fun and learning.

The students thoroughly enjoyed exploring the farm, engaging with the land, and experiencing the many aspects of farm life. With ideal weather conditions, the trip offered a perfect environment for outdoor learning, where students were eager to discover firsthand the importance of food production and the natural world. It was a truly hands-on experience that enhanced their understanding in meaningful ways.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff, volunteers, and to Leisure Farms for their hospitality and support in making this experience possible. We are grateful for the lasting memories created for our young learners and look forward to similar educational opportunities in the future.
